Brian called home the morning of 20 August 2003 and relayed some different facts about this attack.

He stated that this convoy of 4 vehicles on patrol was hit by a remotely detonated 152mm artillery round (RPGs were NOT involved), shortly after midnight on 11 August (Monday), 2003. Cory was in the last vehicle, which was nearest the blast. Cory was in the rear of a cargo Hummer, on the passenger side. The blast seriously injured Cory, which also destroyed the rifle Cory had. The Hummer had a mounted 50cal machine gun, manned by Kirshner, who was wounded (gash on his right side just above the hip) but was able to return fire. In the back of the Hummer with Cory was Sgt Paquette and Roche. Brian was in the second vehicle of the patrol. After the attack, his team dismounted and returned fire, killing at least one of the bad guys. Brian said that when they traced the wire from the bomb that the firing point was out of line of sight, indicating that a lookout was probably involved.

Brian said he wrote a long letter about this and will have far more details, which will appear here when available. We visited Cory on Friday the 22nd of August at Walter Reed and learned even more details, which will be posted here soon.
